Sales of the domestic Android AYYA T1 smartphone started in Russia. It is built on a MediaTek processor, although it is supposed to run on the domestic Skif and costs 19 thousand rubles and its main feature is a separate hardware button to turn off the cameras and microphone to avoid surveillance.
The M.video-Eldorado group informed CNews about the start of sales of the Russian smartphone AYYA T1. The main feature of the mobile phone is the ability to terminate the hardware of the cameras and a microphone using a button on the side.
The AYYA T1 was developed by the Russian company Smartecosystem, a subsidiary of the Research Institute Scale, owned by the state-owned company Rostec. CNews reported that the smartphone was originally developed for the Russian ARM processor “Skif”, developed by the Zelenograd Research and Production Center “Electronic Computing and Information Systems” (NPC “Elvis”). However, the retailer received a chip version developed by the Taiwanese company MediaTek.
Asked by CNews why the choice was made in favor of MediaTek and not Unisoc or, for example, Qualcomm, Smartecosystem representatives replied: “Mediatek is currently one of the largest suppliers of mobile processors in the people. The processors of this supplier have a balanced combination of technical features and costs and a wide range of products allows you to choose the best solution. ”
The smartphone is mainly aimed at the business segment of the market. At the same time, ordinary consumers can also buy it.
The AYYA T1 uses many modern solutions – on-screen camera, USB-C for charging, etc.
In the M.video-Eldorado network, the smartphone is available in black and green body color, while at the time of the announcement in September 2021 it was also offered in blue. Representatives of M.video-Eldorado refused to answer CNews’ question about the size of the batch of smartphones. Smartecosystem told CNews that the color range could be expanded in the future.
Also, they, like the developers, did not specify what the cost of the AYYA T1 dictated. The smartphone is estimated at 19 thousand rubles. At the same time, in terms of material possibilities, it lags significantly behind its “classmates”. “The device has all the necessary multimedia and communication capabilities, while offering an additional solution that is not available in the Russian retail trade, the possibility of physical deactivation of cameras and microphone. In addition, future users of AYYA devices will be able to take advantage of additional service opportunities “, Smartecosystem representatives answered the question of CNews about the reasoning for the price choice.
Smartecosystems built the AYYA T1 based on the MediaTek Helio P70 processor. The CPU was announced in October 2018. It is manufactured with a 12 nm topology and has eight cores in two clusters.
The first set of cores is four high-performance Cortex A73 clocked at 2.1 GHz. The other four cores are energy efficient Cortex A53 at 2 GHz. In GeekBench 5, the processor test result is 295 and 1386 points in single-core and multi-core modes, respectively.
As the CEO of Smartecosystem told CNews Vladislav Ivanov, the “Scythians” series for the first batch of smartphones they will have on them will be formed for the “Elvis” around the spring of 2022. The full adaptation of an existing smartphone to the Helio P70 in “Skif” at that time will not be completed yet and will continue. Lysenko is not yet ready to name the exact dates for the appearance of the phones on Elvis chips. They will largely depend on how quickly NPC will be able to pick up the processors it ordered from a contracted foreign factory.
The “iron” element of the smartphone provides only a complete set with 4 GB of RAM and a 64 GB drive. There are three cameras in the smartphone – the main one at 12 + 5 megapixels and the front one at 13 megapixels.
The latter is located directly on the screen in the form of a cut in the upper left corner. The screen itself has a resolution of HD + or 1600×720 pixels with a diagonal of 6.53 inches and a refresh rate of 60 Hz.
The AYYA T1 is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery with USB-C charging. The phone does not support fifth generation (5G) networks, but there are two slots for SIM cards and one for microSD up to 128 GB.
The list of features of the domestic AYYA T1 includes a separate input for wired headphones and NFC chips for contactless payment. There is also a fingerprint scanner (on the back). In addition to the charging cable and power supply, the package includes headphones, a case and a protective glass for the screen.
Russian smartphone in American operating system
All the electronics of the AYYA T1 home smartphone are controlled by the Google Android 11 operating system. As a result, from the Russian smartphone in terms of software, there is only one set of applications required for pre-installation. According to CNews, the authorities update their list almost every month and at the moment their number has exceeded 30.

In the future, Smartecosystems plans to transfer the AYYA T1 to the Russian Aurora OS, based on Jolla’s Sailfish OS, founded by Nokia people.
The developers do not set the schedule for the transition to Aurora. There is also the possibility of abandoning Android in favor of KasperskyOS, the software platform for Kaspersky Lab mobile devices.
The exact amount of investment in the development of the Russian smartphone on October 28, 2021 was not known. According to CNews, in the public sector there are traces from the official market of the Research Institute “Masshtab” dated 31 January 2020 for the implementation of an integral part of the development (R&D) work to create a “mobile hardware and software platform for a smartphone that is based on home circuits “(code” Trustfon -SES-T1 “). The formality of the process is due to its method: purchase from the only possible supplier, which was Smartecosystem, a subsidiary of the Research Institute Scale.
There is no information about this on the official website of the public procurement. For commercial resources related to procurement, documentation of this process has either already been transferred to the file or presented as empty files.

This is probably due to the fact that Scale has taken advantage of the right of strategically important companies for Russia not to disclose the details of their purchases in order to avoid Western sanctions.
One way or another, the price of the R&D item to build the trust phone was put on the market at the level of 45 million rubles. That is, it makes sense to assume that the total budget for developing a reliable Skif phone will be a bit larger.
What competitors offer
It is not yet clear what the AYYA T1 can offer Russian buyers, other than the hardware shutdown of cameras and microphones, to make their choice in its favor. For comparison, in October 2021, Xiaomi brought the Redmi 10 smartphone to Russia, worth 17 thousand rubles. (memory 4 + 64 GB) or 19 thousand rubles. (4 + 128 GB).
In the top configuration, the price of the Redmi 10 completely coincides with the cost of the AYYA T1. At the same time, the Chinese smartphone has a Full HD + screen with a refresh rate of 60 Hz and a 5000 mAh battery. It has a 50 + 8 + 2 + 2 megapixel main camera and a fingerprint scanner on the power button.
For the same 19 thousand rubles. The Korean company Samsung offers the Russians the Galaxy M22 smartphone. The monoblock has a 6.4-inch SuperAMOLED screen in HD + format, main camera 48 + 8 + 2 + 2 MP, selfie unit 13 MP, NFC for payment of goods and services.
There are also 4 + 128 GB memory modules. The battery capacity of the smartphone is 5000 mAh.
