Infectious dog disease or “difficult” is an extremely dangerous viral disease that infects a huge number of dogs each year and often leads to death. In order to avoid infection, it is necessary to take timely measures and pay special attention to prevention.

plague of carnivores

Infection of the dog is a highly contagious ubiquitous disease accompanied by high fever. The mucous membranes of the respiratory and visual organs become inflamed, a rash appears on the skin and the central nervous system is affected.

According to statistics, the mortality rate among adult dogs ranges between 10-50%, and among puppies up to one year – 30-100%. Owners often delay a visit to the doctor, bringing the animal into a miserable state. Early diagnosis and proper treatment will increase the chances of recovery.

Dogs become infected through contact, airways and the airways. The role of an infectious source is a sick animal or a carrier of a virus – a person who has suffered from a disease.

Stray dogs and wild carnivores are a reservoir of infection. In their environment, the virus circulates and is constantly maintained. It is transmitted by rodents, birds, insects and humans. It begins to multiply in lymphoid cells and then spreads to all tissues and organs. As the virus spreads, fever develops, inflammation of the mucous membranes of the organs of vision, respiratory and digestive systems.

Symptoms and signs of confusion in dogs

The incubation period can last from 7 to 40 days. Forms of dog-to-dog confusion are divided according to the degree of manifestation of clinical signs.

There are five of them: pulmonary, nervous, intestinal, cutaneous and mixed. The disease progresses acute, subacute and chronic. The currents are distinguished by the brightness of the manifestation of the symptoms. If in some cases they are quite strong, then in others they can be deleted.

At the onset of the disease, the temperature rises. The symptoms of carnivorous disease in puppies up to 12 weeks of age are different – they do not develop fever, weakness, redness of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and mouth, loss of appetite, rare vomiting and diarrhea, clear nasal discharge and eyes.

The acute course is characterized by a bright clinical picture. The temperature rises to 39-40 ° C and after a few days decreases and becomes constant or intermittent. If pneumonia develops, the fever returns. The mucous exudate from the nose is replaced by purulent. A dry cough begins which gradually turns into a liquid. Vomiting and diarrhea are becoming more common. Stools are excreted by a mixture of blood and mucus. Along with these signs, acute runny nose of the digestive system is installed.

The shape of the skin is characterized by small red spots on hairless areas. Then bubbles form in their place, which burst and become crusts.

The nervous form manifests itself with short-term enthusiasm, sometimes even aggression. The animal has convulsions, disturbance of coordination of movements. Periodically, seizures are possible that turn into paralysis or paralysis.

The duration of the disease is always different – from several weeks to several months, if it has been years. People who have recovered often have complications for life: paralysis, paralysis, spasmodic contractions, blindness, deafness.

Most owners do not understand how a dog gets confused and find it difficult to recognize the initial symptoms. Therefore, when the first signs of illness appear, you should consult a veterinarian immediately. Only he, based on history and clinical studies, will make the correct diagnosis, on which the outcome of the disease depends.

Prevention of dog disease

Disease prevention is always cheaper for homeowners than treatment. Therefore, animals must be vaccinated in a timely manner. There are many different dog vaccines for dogs on the market. According to the generally accepted vaccination schedule, puppies are first vaccinated at 8-10 weeks of age. Vaccination takes place after 14-21 days.

In addition, already adult animals are vaccinated once a year. If there is an unfavorable situation with plague in the kennel, then before the first vaccination it is recommended to give the puppies at the age of four weeks a multivalent serum against the infectious disease of the dog. Repeat after 14 days. It forms passive immunity, ie it contains ready-made antibodies.
