Country and world

Recently, two of my cats and a dog went on a hunger strike. They raise their noses from the food and look questioningly: they say, hostess, where is our favorite food? And finally, you can not explain to these completely spoiled family members: all the guys, your sweets are gone from the discounts, get used to chewing what they give.
According to veterinarians, medicated food is a marketing ploy. There are GOSTs that oblige to produce suitable products for different breeds and ages. Everything else is the same feed, but with the addition of drugs that can be purchased at the pharmacy
And alas, I’m not the only one with this problem. Russian social networks are full of messages: almost all holistic food (dog and cat food, which is almost natural in its composition) has been scanned from store shelves. You will not find premium European food during the day with fire. And what was left, was thrown very high. For the package, which yesterday cost about 2-3 thousand rubles, today people are forced to pay 6-7 thousand. And the sellers say that this is not the limit …
Let’s try to figure it out. Let’s start with the fact that some of the imported food did not disappear from the market overnight. Even before the pandemic, many popular types of feed from European countries disappeared in Russia immediately. Rosselkhoznadzor banned their import into the country. And not unjustifiably.
The inspection carried out by the department showed that 380 (out of 450) samples did not correspond to the declared composition. Thus, in the labeling of some imported canned foods, meat and bone meal were declared. But inspectors discovered it was flour from bird feathers. In others, where the composition should include many varieties of meat, experts found only plant ingredients – soy and corn. Also, a large number of GMOs were found in many samples …
So I agree with some experts: the introduction is not yet a sign of quality. By the way, I note that some Western companies brought to Russia products that were much lower in quality than those sold in their countries.
And not every “introduction” is brought from afar. Some of the most popular supposedly foreign brands have long been produced in Russia. Examples include Royal Canin, Purina Dog Chow and Purina Cat Chow. They produce about 95% of their products from domestic raw materials. And all they introduce is the price.
By the way, these companies also produced products for export to the Russian Federation – some for the CIS countries and some even for the markets of China, India and Turkey.
Do not discount at a purely domestic manufacturer. Yes Yes. In Russia, they produce their own good quality food, which is by no means inferior to foreign ones.
Among the most famous Russian brands, perhaps, are the following brands: Blitz (“Blitz”), “Our brand”, “ProKhvost” (“ProKhvost”), “Trapeza”, ProBalance (“ProBalance”), “Stout “and Safari (” Safari “). Medicinal foods are produced by Acari Ciar, Lapico, Probalance, Karmy and Zoomenu. They are dry and wet. Flavored chicken, turkey, beef, lamb, fish … And note that they are made according to all standards set by international standards.
So why do they unfairly occupy the last lines of the score? The answer is simple: our manufacturers do not have a well-developed dealer network and do not invest as much money in product advertising.
And who said that foreign companies have left our market forever? According to Rosselkhoznadzor, “10 EU countries continue to supply their products steadily”. And the data is cited as evidence: in the week from February 25 to March 3, 2,323 tons of feed for non-productive animals (our cats and dogs) came from abroad. This is even more than in the first week of February (1679 tons). And those production facilities that have been located in Russia by foreign manufacturers also continue to operate. Sorry, this is a job. And very profitable.
Thus, about 70% of our dry and wet pet food is produced mainly by Mars, followed by Nestle. None of them announced their departure from Russia.
But even if we theoretically imagine that European companies, spitting for their own benefit, decide to “knock on the door”, then their colleagues from other countries will immediately take their place.
Thus, Rosselkhoznadzor is already considering proposals for the certification of goods from those states that do not participate in the crazy fight for sanctions. These are, for example, Latin American countries that already supplied good feed to Russia, but at some point stopped due to a large supply chain. Ή the countries of Southeast Asia.
But the main thing, according to experts, is that it is necessary to expand Russian production.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environment Protection Vladimir Burmatov, in addition to those companies known to animal owners, there are also domestic producers of meat products. Some of them make pet food as a related product. That is, from scrap, liver, veins, bones … “But they have only about 10% of the domestic market. And 90% is imported. I think this is an omission. When designing food security, we must not forget the “four-legged section”. After all, we are not even talking about the animals themselves, but about people who are now sweeping food for cats, dogs and birds off the shelves as intensely as buckwheat or sugar. “Now our producers have a great opportunity to increase production volumes.”
So crying for the poor animals that are starting to die of hunger is not worth it. Another thing is to move a pet from one food to another – a procedure that should be done under the supervision of a veterinarian.
According to “animal doctors”, the simplest scheme for changing the diet looks like this. On the first and second day, 75% of the old dry food and 25% of the new food is poured into the bowl. They must be mixed well. On the third and fourth day – 50% to 50%. In the fifth and sixth – 25% of the old and 75% of the new. From the seventh day – a completely new food.
According to veterinarians, the animal will not experience any stress during such a transition from one industrial food to another. The main thing is that the composition of the food, especially the amount of fat and protein, is similar to old and new foods, so the animal will not have problems with digestion.
You can, of course, remember the old Soviet era, when there were no ready-made jars and packages with “pagans” and transport your pet to a “natural” table. It is true that such a transition should be even smoother and ideally last at least two weeks.
As advised by experts of the Russian Kennel Federation, first of all, the animal should be given dry food in the same amount that was given earlier. But at the same time, you need to add complementary foods – small pieces of meat with vegetables twice a day for seven to ten days. Only then can dry food be removed.
But here it must be borne in mind that the diet of the animal must be synthesized in such a way that about 85% of it consists of protein products (lean meat, poultry, organ meats, seafood, low-fat cottage cheese, kefir, eggs) and only 15% – vegetables, fruits, cereals. Caution: the tubular bones of birds should not be given to dogs in any form. Boiled bones are also categorically ruled out, as they can seriously damage the digestive system and cause intestinal obstruction.
One more thing: when you go from “drying” to “natural”, you should not forget about vitamin and mineral supplements. A veterinarian will help you choose a more balanced menu.
And finally. Many experts fear that the disappearance of feed or its high cost will increase the number of homeless animals. I do not think such a scenario is possible. First, a good owner, even in very difficult times, will never take his pet out the door. Secondly, thank God, there are laws in the country that provide very significant fines for such an attitude towards younger siblings.
