A new municipal animal shelter will be built in Cherepovets

The site for the construction of a large municipal shelter was finally determined in Cherepovets. This was said the day before in the housing and community services department at a meeting of animal rights activists with government officials. Discuss the issues of cruelty in pets. How our little brothers who are left on the street help in the city, see the plot of Channel 12.

For an hour and a half, animal rights activists, veterinarians, government officials and even the police debated the fate of those left homeless. The meeting started with the most anticipated news – the place for the construction of a large municipal shelter has finally been determined – the intersection of Sheksninsky Prospekt and Yuzhnoye Highway.

Sergey Zaitsev, Head of the Advanced Construction Department of Cherepovets City Hall: “The idea of the shelter has been developed for today, the working group commented on this idea, all comments have been taken into account. Therefore, as soon as the Duma decides and the federation agrees, we will calmly start planning in this area. We will send buses there, as soon as we enter the bridge, we will introduce the Sheksninsky Prospekt and the Yuzhnoye highway, we will start a ring road that will travel from Zasheksninskoye to Zarechye along the Yuzhnoye highway, there will be a bus, there is a stop.

The construction site of a large municipal shelter is finally defined

Animal rights activists and Cherepovets shelter volunteers believe this area is the best. According to the rules, places where homeless animals are kept must be away from residential buildings. According to preliminary estimates, the construction of a complex with a veterinary clinic and an animal hotel will require 250-300 million rubles. Another aid measure for stray cats and dogs that requires financial investment is the neutering and trapping program. Experts estimate that if the area allocates funds for 400 people a year, then the number of stray animals will be significantly reduced.

Anatoly Veresov, Deputy Head of the Department of Housing and Utilities: “Now we reach the number of 182 dogs and already 165 cats, if in 2020 we caught only 20. Now we have sent a letter to the veterinary department to provide additional funding. For this funding we plan to make another contract, according to which we will continue to catch dogs and cats, depending on the need that will be created in the second half of the year. “To date, out of the 347 people who will be arrested in 2022 under our existing contracts, we have captured 60 dogs.”

By the end of the year, with the help of additional funding, the city plans to reach the target of 400 people. But there is another side to the coin – training a responsible attitude towards animals. Catching and neutering cats and dogs will be endless if humans continue to leave animals to their fate.

Yulia Vetrova, volunteer at Spas Shelter: “There are more and more cases of not only cruelty to animals, but more recently cruelty to animals. This is a consequence of the irresponsible attitude of humans towards animals. But even now, because of the situation in the world, of course, all the shelters and all the people who take care of the animals are very worried, because all good deeds are done through donations. And of course, if the financial situation of the people changes, the donations become less “.

Feeding, rescuing and caring for street animals is becoming increasingly difficult. For example, Spas, the largest shelter in Cherepovets, has more than 500 dogs. New pets should be accepted daily. On the eve, caretakers at the children’s city hospital pulled a small red dog out of the hatch. At the veterinary clinic, suspicions of a broken leg were not confirmed, but now Chanterelle needs a long recovery at the shelter. And there are hundreds of such stories. The consequences of accidents, domestic injuries and, worst of all, beatings by the owners themselves.

Alexander Morozov, Deputy Chief of Police for the Protection of Public Order: “From January 1, 2021 until today, more than 30 such complaints have been received, of which criminal cases have been initiated for 6 events under Article 245 of the Penal Code” Cruelty to animals. “At the moment, 4 criminal cases are being processed, the investigation for locating suspects is in progress and the substantiated base is being collected”.

Unfortunately, literally holding hands in such cases is not easy. Therefore, it is often difficult to help animals suffering from cruelty to their owners. Citizens are asked to be more careful when buying puppies from such breeders. The volunteers remind us that it is better to take an animal from a shelter. In Cherepovets, more than 1,000 homeless cats and dogs are waiting for their new owners.
