The Far East is large and diverse. Here you can see nature in all its diversity: fresh rivers and salty seas, mountains and hills, even islands and archipelago. One of the most picturesque areas of the Far Eastern Federal District is the Jewish Autonomous Region. Unfortunately, few tourists arrive at the JAO to see it with their own eyes. However, there is definitely something to see here. Experienced travelers told KP-Khabarovsk where to go in the Jewish Autonomous Region and which places not to overlook.

The Bastak State Nature Reserve is located north of the regional center and borders the Khabarovsk region. The huge natural space extends to 127,094.5 hectares. It is famous not only for its flora, but also for its fauna. Here you can meet deer, wild boar, deer, red deer, as well as the Amur tiger and even rare Far Eastern storks.

– Access to the reserve is easy. It is only 15 km from Birobidzhan. But the road to “Bastak” is not the smoothest, in some places there are gravel pavements. For tourists there are guided tours, you can even spend the night there, – he told KP-Khabarovsk Olga Ivanova, a resident of the Jewish Autonomous Region.

There is also a unique pond of lotuses in the territory of the reserve. This plant is included in the Red Book, so you can not tear it under any circumstances. You can only admire from a distance, because the flowers are very delicate. They usually bloom in late July – early August, so it is recommended to go to Bastak right now.

Locals strongly advise tourists to try rafting in Bir at least once. This is the main river in the area. It is wide, extending to 261 kilometers. Thanks to her, Birobidzhan, the regional center of the JAO, got its name.

– When you swim along it, you see picturesque hills around. It is especially beautiful here in early autumn, when it is still warm, but the trees are already golden. We try to raft at least once a year. It is a fairly easy river without strong turns, so everyone can try it.

For beginners, an interesting weekend getaway is recommended. Staying in Birobidzhan, you can take the train to Bira village, taking a boat or kayak with you. It will take about a day to swim back to the regional center. The most experienced tourists are advised to guess the time when there will be no drought and the rising of the river. Then you can arrange a real adventure for yourself.

– At the moment, there are many skewers on the river, where you can arrange stops and even spend the night. We usually take a kayak by train to a settlement. The main thing is that it should be close to the river. If you choose a remote village, you can make rafts for up to three days, resting on skewers.

Travelers are advised to bring with them everything you need for a long rafting: a bowler hat, mugs, cans for dinner by the fire. Also, do not forget the sunscreen and the mosquito repellent. Although there are not many of them in the water, they can still cause problems.

The locals also talk about an interesting tradition. If you sail across the railway tracks and a train passes by, you must definitely paddle it. Drivers will always respond with a greeting signal.

PASHNAGIA CAVES AND FRUIT BEARS
The caves are a strange attraction of JAO. Most of them are only accessible to professional climbers. But ordinary tourists will be able to see some of them.

It is recommended to start exploring the local caves from Pasichnaya. It is easy to climb there, even a child can handle it. The object is located near Birakan. It takes three and a half to four hours to get there from the regional center.

It is recommended to go to the place in the cold season: end of February – beginning of March. To travel in the snow you will need a large car, preferably an SUV. The cave is unusually picturesque and beautiful. Inside there are glaciers and snowfall that do not melt even in summer. It is interesting that the caves are always warmer from the outside. If it is -15 degrees outside, it will be about -5 inside.

– In the caves you can see stalactites and stalagmites. They have an unusual shape, each one is unique. It is better to take something to eat with you and make sure you do not forget a projector. Without it, there is nothing to see inside.

It will not be so easy to get down to the Old Bear cave. It’s named because a bear skull was once found inside. His spirit seems to carefully protect tourists. A strong rope or cable will help you see the beauty of the cave. He is tied to a tree near the cave, and with his help they go down inside.

Only experienced tourists know this place. Although the place is remote, everyone can get there. The mountain is a specially protected natural object. It is remarkable for the fact that there are no other hills or other mountains nearby. That’s why they called her a nun, it’s so unusual to find a single hill in the middle of the forest.

– You can reach Kamen-Monakh via the Birobidzhan-Leninskoe road. On the way, you will need to turn and stop near the forest. Then you have to walk about five kilometers.

Tourists advise to go there in winter, because in summer and autumn there is a swampy area and you can get stuck. However, if you are armed with rubber boots, it will be possible to spend the warm season. If you are very lucky, you can meet animals along the way: various rodents and even deer.

Bring snacks, water and mosquitoes. It is also necessary to inspect the comrades in the campaign for the presence of ticks. This place is far from the cities, so there is a possibility of attack by an insect that sucks blood.
At JAO you can not only see protected places, but also cure your health. Here in the village of Kuldur there is a thermal hot spring. The water of the deposit has been used for a long time for sanitary procedures, that is why people from all over the region come here. The Kuldur spring is considered very hot. The temperature at the exit from the earth reaches 72 degrees. Hence the name of the village. “Kuldur” translates as “hot”.

The area around the keys was considered sacred for a long time and the locals kept their location a secret. Now Kuldur is considered a resort, there are sanatoriums where anyone can undergo medical procedures. According to experts, the healing water improves the condition of the skin, helps heal wounds, cleanses the body of toxins and also relieves sciatica and osteochondrosis.
There is also a place for history buffs. Sopka June-Koran or Volochaevskaya Sopka is located in the Smidovichi district, near Khabarovsk. This hill is a monument to the battle of Volochaev, the largest battle that took place near the capital of the Khabarovsk Territory.

At the top there is a monument, which you can reach by stairs. Next to it are two monuments to Vasily Blucher, Marshal of the Soviet Union. One of them was installed by the state, the second was erected by the soldier’s relatives. Very soon, a museum dedicated to the Battle of Volochaev will open on the hill. Then the place will become even more attractive for tourists.
