What dangers can await in a hike

Ticks and other insects

Ticks live in deciduous, mixed forests and other ecosystems with high humidity and comfortable air temperature (not higher than 25 degrees). You can find them both in parks and on the grass of the city. The most dangerous period is May-June.

Irina: Since July, their activity has decreased somewhat, but in warmer areas it can continue until October. Ticks are carriers of dangerous infectious diseases: tick-borne encephalitis, Lyme disease, unicellular heliocytosis, granulocyte regeneration, vesicular rickettsia and others.

In addition to ticks, horseflies, flies, wasps and wasps, bees, certain species of mosquitoes and ants are dangerous. The bite is not as terrible, although it causes discomfort, as an allergic reaction to it. Your doctor will recommend that you take antihistamines available and take precautions:

  • use repellents. The forms of such products vary: some are suitable for processing clothes, others are applied to the skin.
  • try not to use sweet perfumes and deodorants.
  • eat in safe places, away from beehives, anthills and insect swarms.
  • choose pines or other coniferous forests for recreation, they have lower humidity and ticks are less common.
  • After returning home, inspect yourself and your loved ones for spots that have not yet caught and have not started drinking blood. The most “desirable” places for a tick are in the elbows, under the chest, below the knees, in the groin, behind the ears. If the tick sits on the skin, you should try to remove it carefully. If it has already sucked and you can not pull it out, go to the emergency room.

The sun

Vitamin D is a key hormone that is only synthesized when ultraviolet light hits the skin. At the same time, a person must move actively: go for sports, walk, work, opening the maximum surface of the body. But in addition to benefits, unfortunately, the sun also brings problems.

Irina: Excessive UV absorption has been shown to contribute to the development of melanoma. This is superabsorption. Sunbathing is not harmful if done correctly. Use protective creams, go out in the sun not in the heat (before 11:00 or after 15:00), try not to overheat. It is worth remembering overheating, sunburn, which are especially dangerous for people with cardiovascular disease, unstable blood pressure.

Poor quality food

Now is the time for overseas delicacies, sweets, dangers on the beach, beer, chips and other “pleasant” foods. Here you must not forget the general rules for storing food on hot days. Do not neglect the refrigerator, hide timely dishes with meat and dairy, eggs, cheese in the cold. Use cool bags.

Irina: The next topic is soft drinks with low alcohol content. Because it is more harmful than strong alcohol – a low-alcohol drink does not cause rapid intoxication, which means that a person can drink it in much larger quantities. This is especially true for beer. Our main organ of detoxification, the liver, can not cope with such loads, fatty liver develops.

Unknown foods, abroad, informal for the diet can cause allergies, including latent. You may not even notice the inflammatory response. Keep a close eye on your symptoms after eating new foods.

Unknown berries, mushrooms and fruits, plants

A city dweller is often unfamiliar with the gifts of the forest. It is easy for an incomprehensible person to confuse a white mushroom with a toad. Better not to risk it. Going to the forest, to nature, to a campsite, forbid yourself to pick and eat unknown mushrooms and berries. Also, try not to buy canned or fresh mushrooms from people “on the street”. You never know where the danger may be.

Irina: Each area will have its own so dangerous mushrooms and berries. Common – fly agaric, pale owl, belladonna, wolf stick. Not only consumption but also consumption can be dangerous. Weed is widespread everywhere, leaving burns. Larkspur, backache, ranunculus are herbs that most often cause allergic skin rashes.

A whole range of hazards are associated with water – from a dirty bottom (glasses, cans, syringes and debris that can leave cuts, stings, cause blood poisoning) to the bites of sea, river or lake dwellers.

Irina: It is worth mentioning the spasms that can occur by mistake in any person. In this case, you need to pierce the tip with something sharp, roll on your back and open your arms so that the water holds you until the tip is removed. Also, those who bite and bite painfully and dangerously – leeches, crayfish and other inhabitants can live in the water. Avoid contact with “strangers” whenever possible. They can cause an allergic reaction.

What else can he expect in the water? Underground current, vortices, big waves.

All of the above can be life threatening. Therefore, never swim where it is forbidden. Do not try the water yourself. Choose crowded places so that in case of an unforeseen situation, help can arrive immediately.

A separate category – water fun – rock jumps, piers, breakwaters and grills. Great if all goes well. However, by grouping incorrectly, you can get a fracture (limb, spine, neck), bruises and injuries of different nature. The same goes for water surfing, catamaran, banana boats, scooters and other extreme fun activities. It is worthwhile to perform all the tricks only with full confidence in the acquired skills or under the supervision of a specialist.

Snakes and wild animals

Snakes are found in tall grass, in ponds, in reeds. If you notice a snake, it is better not to approach it and it is good to get out of the water. Do not get up, tease with sticks.

Irina: As for the wild animals, most of the time they do not suit humans. If the animal (fox, raccoon, hare, etc.) is quite affectionate, friendly, it is possible that it has been infected with rabies. It is best to stay away from them while camping, to close the tents at night, to check before going to bed.

Animals that have not been infected with rabies are also dangerous. For example, wild boars, coyotes, skunk. Do not tease them, do not scare them, do not approach them. Nature is good from afar, watch it, but do not interfere with its laws.
