Vesti has decided to check how much it will cost to prepare dishes that returnees love in Israel, if you buy products for them in different retail chains. Our first dish was borscht. And it is calculated “borscht index” for Israel. Where is it cheaper to buy products for him and where is it more expensive? The following are the results of our journalistic research.

There are many options for cooking borscht. For research purposes, we got a classic recipe from “Books for delicious and healthy food”, adapting it to the rules of kashrut. Then they made a list of the products needed to make 4-6 servings of borscht.

The Vesti reporter checked the price of these products in many large supermarket chains – Shufersal, Rami Levy, Osher Ad, Victory, Yainot-Bitan, Tiv-Taam.

The cost of a borscht pot was calculated according to the following proportions: 500 g beef, 300 g potatoes, 200 g beets, 500 g fresh cabbage, 200 g carrots, 150 g onions and 50 g tomatoes Paste.

Price controls were carried out on the night of Tuesday, May 17 in stores and on retail chain websites.

At all the major retail chains in Israel, you can buy a complete set of borscht products, including fresh meat, in one go – both in-store and on-site delivery.

According to Vesti’s calculation, the cheapest family borscht comes from products purchased online “Hell’s hellThe most expensive – of the goods “Yaynot-Bitan”. The difference was about 8 shekels.

The second cheapest, according to our control, was borscht from the network “Win”.
