Whether you call it NaHCO3, sodium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, baking soda or just bicarbonate, it’s one of the magic ingredients in your kitchen cupboard. From keeping fresh flowers for longer to adding shine to pots and pans. Here are 15 ways in which baking soda magic can help at home.

The power of this miraculous powder lies in its ability to regulate pH. When baking soda comes in contact with acidic or alkaline substances, its natural reaction is to neutralize the pH, as well as to prevent further alteration of this balance or buffer.

Baking soda releases carbon dioxide when exposed to high temperatures or acidic ingredients. Such as lemon juice, yogurt, buttermilk, cocoa or vinegar. This CO2 release causes the pastry dough to swell, resulting in the characteristic texture of products such as cakes, breads and pancakes. Restoring pots and pans to their original state can be a daunting task. But baking soda makes it much easier.

You can do this in one of three ways: add about 2 tablespoons of baking soda to a container of hot water with regular dishwashing liquid and let the pots or pans soak for a few minutes before washing. And then – as usual.

The second option is to add 2 tablespoons to a pot of water and simmer for 15 minutes to loosen burnt food or old stains.

Or make a paste by combining 3 parts baking soda with 1 part water and rub the plate with the hard side of a sponge.

In addition, soda perfectly removes plaque from porcelain, glass and ceramic dishes. It is also great for stains that often form inside your favorite cups of tea and coffee. Just apply baking soda to the sponge instead of your usual detergent and rub it. Voila!

The Magic of Baking Soda: Defeat Clogs

Pour half a cup of baking soda into the sink, followed by two cups of vinegar (and watch the lubricant react with the acid to form a foam volcano. Wait for it to settle. This will help dissolve any accumulated dirt.

If your sink needs extra help, mix 1 cup of baking soda with laundry detergent, which is great for degreasing. And then use vinegar. At the end, add a liter of boiling water. The blockage will pass.

Refresh your hands, cutting boards and cooking utensils

Remove strong odors from ingredients such as garlic or onions by simply washing your kitchen utensils with a little baking soda. Then rinse well and dry. It also helps to remove stains from the cutting wood.

It also works with the hands. If you forgot to wear gloves while cooking and your hands absorbed the smells of the same onions or fish, soda will help. Just keep them for a while in a warm solution with the addition of a spoonful of powder.

Beat the smell in the fridge

Make a paste of baking soda and water (3 parts baking soda to 1 part water) and clean the inside of the refrigerator with it to remove stains and bad odors.

To keep it odorless, place a small container of baking soda in the refrigerator. It is able to absorb any strong and unpleasant odors. This tip also works well for the freezer, food cabinet or cabinets that are prone to moisture (such as under the kitchen sink).

Renew your wipes and sponges

It often happens that kitchen towels and paper towels retain odor residues even after many washes. But where washing powder and fabric softener have failed, sodium bicarbonate will help.

Just dissolve about 4 tablespoons of baking soda in 1 liter of warm water and soak your wipes or sponges overnight. This will help remove strong odors.

Wash fruits and vegetables

This is a very effective but safe way to ensure that all dirt and foreign bodies are washed away by fresh fruits and vegetables. Especially if it is for children.

Just add 3 or 4 tablespoons of baking soda to a large bowl or bowl of water and wash in the fruits and vegetables.

Cleaning the oven is a job we all hate to do, but it does not have to be a bicarbonate chore. This tried and tested method will leave your glass oven door shiny:

    1. Mix 3 parts baking soda with 1 part hot water to form a paste.
    1. Preheat the oven for a few minutes and then turn it off.
    1. Wipe the glass with a damp cloth.
    1. Spread the paste on both sides of the oven door.
    1. Leave for 2-3 hours until the paste turns brown.
    1. Wipe both sides with a damp sponge cloth.
    1. Use a plastic car scraper to remove the excess.

Baking Soda Magic: Clean your microwave oven

Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to a small glass bowl of water. And then put in the microwave for a few minutes. Wipe the inside of the microwave to remove stains or food debris.

Dirty carpet? Baking soda can also be used to clean it. Sprinkle the bicarbonate generously over the coating. And then leave for at least 15 minutes. Then just wipe off the residue and vacuum the carpet as usual.

For best results, leave the powder on overnight. Whether your carpet needs to look brighter and smell nice is a good way to freshen it up naturally. Just think how much money you could save instead of spending on expensive rugs.

Clean combs

Tools for your hair can become extremely dirty over time. They will last a long time and will remain in excellent condition. Especially if they are thoroughly cleaned at least once a month.

Soak them in a mixture of 1 teaspoon baking soda and 2 cups hot water for an hour, then rinse and dry.

Defeat the smell of the trash can

Pour a generous amount of baking soda into a fresh bag to absorb any odors. Keep the bin itself in excellent condition by washing it with a mixture of baking soda and water once a week. This is a great trick for recycling enthusiasts.

Yes really. Baking soda is good to keep close to the stove, because you can put out small fires just by sprinkling it directly on the flame. Carbon dioxide is released when baking soda comes in contact with heat, which chokes the flame.
