In seven minutes and 100 rubles: how the water study of the Birzhevoy bridge works

There are two boats on the route. They operate strictly according to schedule.

Last Friday, May 27, two small boats joined the ranks of the St. Petersburg River Fleet. The ships were launched between the Mytninskaya and Admiralteyskaya embankments as an alternative to the Birzhevoy bridge, which was closed for major repairs in October 2021. The bridge will be inaccessible to pedestrians and vehicles until May 2023.

The residents of St. Petersburg, who lost a convenient passage between the side of St. Petersburg and the island of Vasilyevsky, offered to be transported by sea and not to bypass the Tuchkov bridge. The “KP-Petersburg” tried the river “minibus” on itself.

The first starting point is the Mytninskaya embankment. A restaurant-ship is within walking distance of the pier.

NOTE BABIES

The first departure point of the minibus is at Mytninskaya Embankment, 3 lit. Oh, not far from the Flying Dutchman floating restaurant. On the descent to the left, large yachts and boats are crowded. The ticket office for the ship is visible on the embankment – seen from afar from the blue flag with the big white letters “Ferry”. At the ticket office, two volunteers from the Astra Marine Group of Companies are on duty, inviting passers-by to make a quick trip between the embankments.

– It will go beyond the Palace Bridge, to the Admiralty. On the descent with the lions, – the volunteer charts the route and shows a small boat, swaying in the waves at the pier.

There are only two such transport boats on the route, each of the children can accommodate 11 people, not counting the captain. The sofas are placed along the sides of the boat, a canopy is fixed above the captain, which covers the entire boat like a wing in case of rain. By the way, strollers and bicycles are allowed on board without any problems.

A ferry ticket costs 100 rubles, you can pay for the purchase by card or cash. Unlike ordinary wheeled minibuses, water tankers travel strictly according to schedule and do not stand at the pier, picking up passengers. Even if there is only one passenger on the ship, the ship will start normally. Both boats depart from opposite bunk beds at the same time, every 15 minutes, and the voyage itself takes no more than 5-7 minutes. Boats may not enter the line only in the event of a storm warning, strong wind or prolonged heavy rain.

This is what a ferry ticket looks like. Forgetful passengers will also be reminded of the time of departure of the ship.

BECOMING A TOURIST

We load on the ship, take our seats and rush to the Admiralty. Despite the size of the boat, it does not oscillate strongly in the waves, so passengers suffering from seasickness will be comfortable on the road. First, the closed Birzhevoy Bridge with the workers floating on it floats next to us, and then all the postcards overlooking St. Petersburg – the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Hermitage, the Palace Bridge, the Kunstkamera. Makes you want to open the camera and feel like a tourist. Near the Universitetskaya embankment, the boat makes a sharp turn and carefully parks at the pier on the Admiralteyskaya embankment. Drive with the wind!

On the way back we started after 20 minutes from the descent with lions, having managed to walk along the embankment and take pictures of seagulls.

QUICKLY BUT NOT FREE

We issue a verdict for the passage of the ferry. Pros – really fast and convenient, on a trip you can be a tourist and see the sights from the water. However, without the driver’s stories. Disadvantages: the boat is not a free bridge, you have to pay for comfort. And, of course, the ferry route does not serve as an exact replica of the Birzhevoy bridge, otherwise its end point would not be the descent with lions, but the arrow of Vasilyevsky Island. You will have to walk to the Basque Country along the Palace Bridge.

Along the way, you have a wonderful view of the city center. It is a sin not to open the camera!

According to Astra Marine officials, the route has already gained popularity. On Sunday, at the pier at Mytninskaya there was no end to those who wanted to walk among the embankments.

– The passenger traffic is big, on the weekends there was even a queue. People were happy. Everyone liked to go fast. Today is Tuesday, but we have already transported a hundred people before 15.00. Someone moves quickly to the other side for work, someone goes for a short walk instead of an excursion. “I think this is a really necessary idea,” the volunteer shared.
