Do employers see the name of the educational institution in the CV or does it matter? What is important for an employer when applying yesterday’s student to work and what specialties are in demand? The situation is important both for university and college graduates who are already preparing to receive a diploma, and for applicants who are simply choosing an educational institution for their future profession. Talgat BEREKESHEV, head of Kublei LLP, one of the largest processing companies in Kazakhstan, shared his views on these issues.

– Talgat Malikovic, Which specialties are most in demand today in your business?
– Our company belongs to the food processing industry. Given that our deep processing in the agro-industrial complex is not developed in our country, many food processors, including us, face a severe shortage of narrow specialists, for example, technologists with already existing work experience. The plant also needs quality managers, electrical engineers and equipment integration engineers with English proficiency. Once the factory is operational, it can no longer stop, many processes and people are involved.
– Do you employ young professionals who have graduated from universities?
– Yes, of course, we accept university graduates. In addition, many of them come to us from universities and work for 10-20 years, gain experience, become professionals in their field.
– Are there any specialists in your company who came to work immediately after graduation as ordinary specialists and gradually rose in the career?
– Yes, for example, we have technologist surgeons, construction site foremen, they started with the foreman apprentices when they came to work after graduating from universities. And we have many such workers.
– Do you agree that it is profitable for a company to hire a new specialist, because you can “grow” an employee “for yourself” from him?
– I agree, but this only happens if the young specialist has a solid foundation to understand the basics of his specialty. In my practice, I will say that it takes at least 3 years to teach a student the basics of a profession and 6-7 years to make him a specialist.
Does your company have more new employees or middle-aged and older?
“Our team is mainly young. The average age of the employees in the team is from 30 to 40 years.
– In your opinion, what kind of specialists will your company need in 3-4 years?
– We definitely need technical workers with knowledge of foreign languages.
What personal qualities should an employee of your company have?
– An employee, in my opinion, should be responsible, productive (hardworking), social, able to work in a large team and have principles in achieving the tasks assigned to him.

However, the educational reforms in the Republic of Kazakhstan speak for themselves that the future is more focused on technical specialties or related fields of activity.
